Presidents Report 2009 - Lynette Crookall |
President’s Report ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING APRIL 2009 I submit this report tonight as President of PRCC but let me be quick to add that what I present here tonight would not have been achievable without my Committee and I acknowledge you here tonight. The first change we implemented, last May, was our Breakfast meetings – six people arrived. The next meeting 26 people attended, so it just became a breakfast forum each month. Since then, our numbers have been consistent at 25-30 each meeting. We have a 10 minute presentation from a guest speaker, a trade table and 1 minute for each attendee to speak about their business. Breakfast and coffee is provided free for members. These forums are considered to be very successful and we encourage all to feel free to bring prospective new members along. Two very successful “Women In Leadership Lunches” were held in May and October 2008. I say successful not because of the numbers (100-150 attendees), but because of the feedback from the women and how they look forward to the next one. Craig Pratt (PRCC Committee Member) and I had meetings with two business men from North Lakes and helped them to form the North Lakes Chamber of Commerce (NLCC). We have had two networking nights at North Lakes - the second one we shared with NLCC. 60-70 people attended each night. I, along with Cheryl Springer (Committee Member) attended a meeting in Brisbane of our head body Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland. In the lead up to the State Election, PRCC along with the Redcliffe Chamber of Commerce were asked to support Rail ’09 which we did. I have attended all their meetings – the latest being this morning. The Government had dropped the railway line off the infrastructure programme all together and put a southside line instead. I was asked by Moreton Bay Regional Council to choose a piece of art from their collection for a showing titled “I Know What I Like”, and provide a 75 word description as to the choice. The Pine Rivers Chamber now has the honour of our name on the wall in the Redcliffe Art Gallery and I accepted the invitation to attend the opening of the Art Gallery along with Cheryl Springer. Together the rail advertisements and the Gallery opening have placed the Pine Rivers Chamber of Commerce is on the “Map” of being an important regional community group. Our membership continues to grow steadily to approximately 80 members. My big disappointment has been the web site. But we are working hard on this point to rectify it. I hope to soon be able to view the current President’s report. Thank you from me personally to Steven Jones of SRJ for the use of the premises tonight and for chairing our AGM. To Cheryl Springer, Springers Low Voltage for use of their board room for our monthly meetings. To Craig Pratt, Coffee Club, for the use of the premises for the breakfast Forums and catering of our functions, including tonight. Since taking the Chair 12 months ago, I wanted to move the Chamber forward where it would be a place for business to network and promote themselves and become known in the wider community and business world. I believe we have achieved that to a certain extent – our functions are successful to the extent of your attendance and participation and as I’ve moved about the shire and met with people at functions, organizations and business events, the PRCC is well spoken of which means that we are filling an important function within the business community. Regards, Lynette Crookall President PRCC
